Day 2: Tales of Tangier Tour, Caves of Hercules, Café Hafa
Tangier has long served as a gateway between continents, and today’s private tour will reveal the alluring cultural blend and famous landmarks of this Moroccan city. Meander through the labyrinthine alleyways hearing stories and anecdotes of the city’s past and present. Visit the iconic Grand Socco square, peaceful Mendoubia Gardens, and the historic kasbah perched atop a hill. Pause at a restaurant or café to savor local dishes and refreshing mint tea before parting ways with your private guide.
This afternoon, explore one of Morocco’s most famous natural landmarks—the Caves of Hercules. Located just 8 miles (14 km) from the city center, mythology has it that Hercules retired there once his exploits were accomplished and that he created the Strait of Gibraltar by moving the mountains. Later, visit the famous Café Hafa, a symbol of Tangier’s international, bohemian, and free-spirited character. For more than 100 years, this legendary spot has played host to celebrities and writers, including The Rolling Stones. Find a spot on the terrace to hold hands and gaze out to sea.
Day 3: Transfer to Chefchaouen, Self-Guided Walk
Roll through the picturesque Moroccan countryside, passing rolling hills, fertile valleys, and charming rural villages, on today’s two-hour private transfer to the famed “Blue City” of Chefchaouen. Perched beneath the raw peaks of the Rif mountains, this is one of Morocco’s prettiest towns, an artsy, blue-washed mountain village that feels like its own world. On arrival, choose to lose yourself in the mazelike streets or relax on the rooftop terrace of your accommodations at the 5-star Lina Ryad & Spa, taking in views of the medina below.
Founded in 1471 as a stronghold against the Portuguese, Chefchaouen holds deep cultural significance. Its eight mosques, zaouias, and marabouts (religious buildings and schools) bear testament to its status as a holy town. The old medina is a mosaic of Moroccan and Andalusian influences with red-tiled roofs, bright-blue buildings, and streets that lead to Plaza Uta el-Hammam. Today’s 3.5-hour private transfer lands you in the imperial city of Meknes. On the way, stop at the well-preserved Volubilis, a 2,000-year-old Roman complex and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Depending on your flight time, you might be able to visit Casablanca’s iconic Hassan II Mosque.
